Isa. 42:16 “I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.”
The ‘word of the Lord’ to us on Watch Night service for 2020 was, “New Days, New Ways.”
Our Christian life is a journey from new birth to Heaven. It has profound, Divinely-given calling and purpose. We were called out of darkness and called into fellowship with Jesus. 1 Pet. 2:9; 1 Cor. 1:9; 1 John 1:7; Rom. 8:28.
As we go into the ‘new days’ of 2020, where we have never been before, we don’t act as though we know how to live it already. Our life is meant to be ‘led by the Spirit,’ not led by “yesterday.” When we are led by the Spirit, that is, we open our minds to hear something different, we step into ‘new paths’ of His leading. We are, in effect, living and walking by faith, not by our own intellect, logic and experience.
How do we begin this ‘new way’ of living in 2020? We begin by humbling ourselves in fasting and prayer…listening to that ‘still small voice’ to tell us something unfamiliar, as the verse above tells us. We love the comfort of the routine and the familiar—however, not much faith is required for those two items. Depending on Him, we ask Him afresh, ‘Lord, what is new about my job? Lord, what is new in the ministry you have given? Lord, what is new that I should embrace with my family and friends? Lord, what is new about my use of money and time? Lord, what is new about my devotion to you?’ …and so on.
If we are not deliberate in yielding to something new, we automatically default back to what we have already known and done many times before. Let us step into the new adventure with God for greater breakthroughs because we have allowed God to lead us to places He has prepared that we have not known!
