From the Pastor's Desk

“I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.” Ps. 119:14-16.

Our world is looking for ways to sustain good feelings and positive emotions.  All kinds of things and activities and pursuits are on offer to give you ‘the good life.’  However, it soon becomes apparent, that those we think must be ‘having it good all the time,’ are not at all having it ‘good all the time.’ Especially, we realise this, when they commit suicide.

God never meant that we find the most abiding fulfilment, sustained joy, and sense of blessedness from any thing or activity.  The Word of God says He has given us all things richly to enjoy.  1 Tim. 6:17. However, the ‘enjoyment of things,’ we soon discover, is fleeting and very temporary…like delicious food.  Soon we want some more of that that ‘tastes or feels so good!’  If we are not careful, we can end up like the world from which we have been saved, living a ‘feeling-oriented life.’

When we don’t neglect His Word and we delight in it…we secure our emotions by informing our relationship and lifestyle.  Our decisions are then governed not by the ‘changing tides of emotion or feeling’ but by the eternal, unchanging Word of God.  We rule over our contrary or negative emotions by returning to the Word and making it our inner sanctuary.

Without this activity, we unwittingly become victims of our circumstances and all the emotions that go with them.  Life then seems tough, hard, negative and hopeless.  Return to the Word of God that releases His heart into yours! Ps. 34:8, 9.
