“The Lord detests the way of the wicked, but he loves those who pursue righteousness.” Prov. 15:9.
“But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.” 1 Tim 6:11.
In this season of fasting and prayer, we are doing what God asks us to do: pursue Him.
We go after Him by humbling ourselves, by fasting, by prayer, by praise and by faith. This is not because He is elusive, but simply because He asks us to and because we instinctively pursue so many other things…whether legitimate or illegitimate.
To pursue means to, “follow someone in order to overtake him.” He is not running away but He requires us of our own free will to seek Him out. We leave a lot of things to ‘go after Him.’ The Bible says that God pursues us! Job 19:22. How would a God who is everywhere pursue us? It simply means in human terms that God is moved towards that He loves, He so wants to be near them and involved deeply in their lives, if they will but allow Him.
As we are not Omnipresent like Him, we have to make a conscious and deliberate effort to pursue Him! Sweeping aside distractions, and there are so many of them, we focus our time, our effort, our devotion, and our eyes and ears on Him. With us “pursuing Him and His pursuing us, we shall surely have the life-changing encounters we both desire and long for.
Your pursuit is not in vain! He is ‘there’ waiting for you!
