“…who led them through the depths…Like a horse in open country, they did not stumble; like cattle that go down to the plain, they were given rest by the Spirit of the Lord. This is how you guided your people to make for yourself a glorious name.” Isa. 63:13-14.
One of the ways God guides His people, according to the verse above, is by rest. If you are not experiencing “rest” in your life right now, you have missed ‘the way.’ The Devil pushes by the ‘press’ of oppression. High stress, anxiety, worry, fear and fretting are the characteristics of the lack of rest. Rest, according to Hebrews 4 is an expression of faith or trusting in Jesus to do what you cannot do and what He has promised to do. Only when we relax in His ability to take our lives forward do we rest.
If your job situation, your home life, or some other situation is dis-stressing you, stop in His Presence and come back to a place of rest. Listen to His instruction. He will tell you to simply abide in Him or to do something that requires faith to alter your circumstances. Often the greatest enemy of listening to His voice is the fear that if God tells me to do something, then I am obligated to do it and I’m not sure I am ready to take that bold step of faith yet…i.e. not sure I am ready to be obedient yet. Rest is good. It awaits us. It is the sign we are being ‘guided’ and obedient. It is the good life. Go for it!
