“Jesus did not let him, but said, "Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you." Mark 5:19.
In the passage above, Jesus brings wholeness to a man oppressed by the Devil. The man didn’t deserve to be delivered. He lived in a ‘place’ of submission to an evil influence. However, he still had enough of his own will to respond to Jesus’ coming near. He ran toward Jesus and knelt before Him. Jesus responded to His need with great mercy and power.
Mercy without power is pointless. All of us need both His mercy and power from time to time. We must take our naked will and drop to our knees in surrender to Him and ask Him for mercy.
When He comes with mercy, He comes with power—the power to make the new opportunity that mercy brings, a fresh, unhindered re-start. The world rarely, if ever, forgives and gives you a re-start or a new beginning…no matter how long ago your failure/disgrace took place. He, however, does give you that mercy and the power to make a new beginning without wearing the clothes of shame from yesterday.
Take the first step of shedding those ‘clothes’ that do not belong to you and cry out to Him for His mercy. He comes. He is faithful. You will begin anew! What a Saviour! Praise Him! If appropriate, tell someone how He has had such mercy on you…
